He only seems aloof

Here is the first in a series of profiles of the Democratic presidential contenders by The Washington Post. This one is about John Kerry. I think it borders on the fawning, but provides a useful portrait nonetheless. If the Democrats nominate Kerry, voters will be able to choose between a candidate who, quoting the French writer Andre Gide, likes to say "Don't try to understand me too quickly" and a president who is easy to understand. Kerry seems to be a man of many interests -- flying airplanes, playing the guitar, hunting, sailing, skiing, writing poetry, and perhaps reading writers like Andre Gide. I trust that after November 2004 he will have the time he needs to pursue them.

Apparently, the Post intends to offer profiles of all nine candidates. It should hurry.
