Exploiting the afflicted
While a student in medical school, Charles Krauthammer suffered a spinal cord injury and resulting paraplegia. In his column today he discusses the John Edwards' testimony to the miraculous healing powers of the election of John Kerry as president: "Anything to get elected." He brings both a special passion and expert knowledge to rendering his verdict on the underlying issues, including the allegation that President Bush has "banned" stem cell research:
In my 25 years in Washington, I have never seen a more loathsome display of demagoguery. Hope is good. False hope is bad. Deliberately raising for personal gain false hope in the catastrophically afflicted is despicable.
