Completely compleat
Several readers have written to correct my spelling of "compleat" in the heading of "The compleat Democrats' disgrace" below. My favorite of the messages is from a suspicious left-wing nut who wrote:
If you really are in Minnesota, shouldn't you spell complete the way we do here in the States? Or are you just another right wing propaganda machine whose purpose is to stir up trouble in a country not your own?Folks, check it out. "Compleat" means, among other things:
"Being an outstanding example of a kind; quintessential: "Here was the compleat modern misfit: the very air appeared to poison him; his every step looked treacherous and hard won" (Stephen Schiff). In Minnesota the Democratic Party has given us the distilled essence of the left's intellectual meltdown; thus "the compleat Democrats' disgrace."
