Americans Respond Rationally to Hamas Victory

A new Gallup Poll on Israel and the Palestinians came out today. The results are all interesting; among other things, it appears that Hamas's recent victory in the PA election has caused more Americans to sympathize with the Israelis in this long-running conflict.

What really jumped out at me, though, was this graph, which goes back to 1988. It is remarkable how constant American views of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict have been over the years:

Currently, Americans favor the Israelis by nearly four to one, and the margin is even greater among people who follow the news closely. And, of course, it's wider among Republicans than Democrats and independents. A generation of United Nations propaganda, pseudo moral equivalence and biased news coverage has had remarkably little impact.
