The reason why
The impression one gets from mainstream media reports on the Israeli military operation in Lebanon is of its punitive nature. No rationale is offered for the Israeli bombardment of the Beirut airport and the naval blockade of the coast. On CNN's Situation Room this afternoon, Israeli Ambassador Ayalon described the Israeli bombing of the Beirut airport as part of its efforts to keep arms from being moved to Hezbollah in Lebanon. The naval blockade was obviously set up for the same purposes.
