In his Chicago Sun-Times column today, Mark Steyn deploys disproportionate ridicule to the critique of "disproportionality" leveled against Israel, also addressed below by Professor Kittrie. Among other disproportionately hurtful barbs in Steyn's column is this one regarding the Seattle shooting jihadist who has dropped from view: "In America, terrorism is like dentistry and hairdressing: It doesn't count unless you're officially credentialed." And this one, on Qana:

Twenty-eight dead civilians in a village from which 150 Katyusha rockets have been launched against Israel doesn't seem "disproportionate" to me. What's "disproportionate" is the idea that civilian life should be allowed to proceed normally in what is, in fact, a terrorist launching platform.
