A new face we won't see

Former Virginia Governor Mark Warner says he will not run for president. Perhaps he wishes he hadn't wasted $70,000 feeding the Kos crowd earlier this year. On the other hand, that's pocket change for Warner. Yet, as wealthy as he is, Warner is well advised not to throw it away taking on the Hillary Clinton machine.

Here's Michael Barone's view on what it means. He concludes:

Mark Warner's withdrawal—if that's what it is—leaves the Republicans in the position of having a field of candidates that is more likely to produce a nominee who can transcend the '96–'04 polarization and win substantial numbers of votes unavailable to his party's nominee in '96, '00, and '04.
