JOHN adds: To what Schoenfeld says about the Sandy Berger caper, I would add this: Berger's explanation that he only removed documents from the Archives so he could take them home and study them at his leisure is not only inconsistent with his spy-like drop of the documents under a construction trailer. It is also inconsistent, and even more flatly so, with his own admission that, having gotten the documents home, he cut at least some of them up into small pieces with a pair of scissors and threw them away. This is consistent only with an intent to *destroy* the documents, not with an intent to *read* them. Nevertheless, every major newspaper in the United States appears to have found Berger's explanation satisfactory.
