Fallujah Attack Nears

November 6, 2004 Posted by John at 7:27 AM

It appears that the long-awaited assault on Fallujah will begin at any time. One vital question is how the Iraqi soldiers participating in the attack will behave. It is an article of faith among many on the left that Iraqi troops will never be effective, so that America's soldiers will be responsible for security in Iraq indefinitely. Time will tell; but reader Haider Ajina says the Iraqis are anxious to rid their country of terrorists. He is scornful of Kofi Annan's suggestion that cleansing Fallujah of terrorists will somehow make January's elecetions more problematic:

Annan obviously is out of touch with Iraq, its government & its people (may be even reality). The people of Iraq (Sunnis included) have wanted the liberation of the Sunni area for some time. They want to be liberated from the terrorists, bombings, kidnappings, intimidation & oppression. They want a strong decisive victory and the elimination of the terrorist apparatus. The Iraqi government wants the same. Iraqi security forces have been arresting hundreds of (terrorist) followers of Al-Doory the former second in command under Saddam. They also believe they are close to capturing Al-Doory.

Haider passes on this photo of a group of Iraqi soldiers. Translated from Arabic, the caption says: "Iraqi Soldiers before storming Felujah: Soldiers of the new Iraqi army take a short rest near Felujah after they completed training on storming Felujah. The US Army announced the completion of preparation to enter Felujah."
