Welcome aboard, Captain

Today our friend Captain Ed — Edward Morrissey, the proprietor of the excellent Captain’s Quarters — joins the fleet of contributing writers under the command of Standard online editor Jonathan Last (of the excellent Galley Slaves). In his maiden voyage for the Standard this morning, Ed does what he does best. He takes an important or illuminating story that has gone unnoticed and shines a spotlight on it.
