…on Jamil Hussein, from Blog of the Week Flopping Aces. It appears that the Iraqi government didn’t exactly confirm “Jamil Hussein’s” identity, as alleged by the Associated Press.
The bigger issue here, of course, is the extent to which wire services rely on Iraqi stringers (both “news reporters” and photographers) of unknown reliability, and report their claims as news. It was the episode of the six immolated Sunnis that prompted the current round of questions, but the issue has been with us for a while, and it isn’t going away any time soon.
